To determine whether the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness measured by optical coherence tomography (OCT) is abnormal in eyes with diffuse retinal pigment epithelial changes (DRPE). Fifty-one eyes with DRPE and 25 eyes with normal fundus appearance were studied. The RNFL thickness was measured in the peripapillary region. To minimize the effect of optic disc swelling, it was corrected by dividing the OCT value of each eye by the mean value of the right and left eyes. In eyes with DRPE, no statistically significant differences were observed in the mean RNFL thickness between eyes with hemorrhages and those with cotton-wool spots, between eyes with drusenoid deposits and those with drusen, and between eyes with lacquer crackles and those with pigmentary changes in the retina.
